Frogasaurus Rex at Clearlake California 2004

Clearlake decided to creat two races in addition to the parade.
The first race was a "Racer's Race".
Longer and more intense.
The second race was for the benefit of the spectators.
Short so that the spectators could see us the whole time.
The Racer's Race
The Racer's Race was first.
First we drove around in a small circular path for the land race.
Frogasaurus Rex held its own during that part of the race.

Next came the water. While the other KSRs quickly trundled
into the water and started off, Frogasaurus Rex waded in and
began the long conversion.

Frogasaurus Rex was by far the last into the water.
In fact, the other KSRs were about 1/3 of a mile away
when we hit the water.
Nevertheless we passed them all.
We exited the water and crossed the finish line
ahead "by a country mile".

The Parade
|
That tow truck needed a tow. Well, we have some very low gears! I hooked up a tow rope and...

From our experience in 2003 we knew that a squirtgun would be
handy in the parade.
It's hot in Clear Lake, and folks like to get sprayed.
In fact the main problem would be running out of water.
This year I bought a spray unit and converted it into a squirt gun.
With it's 4 gallon tank, it had the capacity to last
the whole parade.

The Spectator's Race
|
Last was the Spectator's Race.
This was very short.
I wasn't sure we would be able to hold our own in the water.

Driving in low gear range on our ATV wheels,
Frogasaurus Rex is much slower.
We take the rear position in the road race.

|
The reason we chose our ATV wheels for the road race
was to reduce water conversion time.
It still takes a long time, but much less.

In shallow water I can't lower the prop all the way.
That really churns up the water.

But we did OK after all.
We passed several contestants in the water.
Notice the color of the water.
It makes the name of the town ironic.

Frogasaurus Rex emerges from the lake. Not first, but not last.
Combined with our performance in the first race,
and in the parade, we are in first place.

Awards
|
Frogasaurus Rex won the race.
This is a really cool trophy Elliot created from brass musical
instrument parts.
It is in the shape of a tricycle, complete with pedals.
|
|
And Frogasaurus Rex got an award in the parade.
