framed frog with eyes framed frog with eyes paper legs
We used the metal frame head from The Rex Files. Adding plastic globes for eyes made it frog-like. We then used struts, rope, and elastic to form a body shape. Of course, we still needed to add legs. But at least we now knew how big the legs needed to be. And we had a rough idea how we were going to attach the legs. Meg formed legs from chickenwire. Dave, Meg and I then mache'ed newspaper onto it. Jacob varnished the paper to make it water resistant.
frog with silver skin colorized
We stretched silver lycra from The Rex Files to form the head and body skin. We glued new lycra onto the legs. At every step it looked more and more frog-like. For the trading cards, I painted onto the previous photo. It's amazing how much difference the eye pupuls make. Adding eye lids and generally painting the skin completed the makeover. We used four colors of green paint and one of black.
Dave asked his friend Thea to make helmet covers for us. Frog helmets
