The Night Before

When we arrived in Klamath Falls we pulled out our craft so kids could ride them. Peter Wagner pulled out his also. Most of the kids riding were Steve Cross's.

The Race -- June 27

Before the race

KangaRex We are required to carry a compass in the race. We attach a chalk to our rudder and drive KangaRex in a circle to demonstrate our circle drawing compass. On the right is OIT's [Oregon Institute of Technology] race entry. As befitting the product of an engineering department, it is complex. It uses a worm gear to adjust wheel height. OIT

Start your engines! Or something like that...

LeMans start The Kinetic Sculpture Races traditionally use a LeMans start. Klamath Falls retained that, but with a new twist this year. Races start from inside the porta-potties. Here I am emerging, nicely refreshed, to start the race. Another unique feature of the Klamath Falls race is in the sand. Between each racer the officials encourage all the kids in the audience to run out into the sand pit and stir it up. Kids
A result of this is that the sand is pretty consistently soft. A lot of vehicles with bike wheels don't make it through. Bubble Buggy Tri-tri-again Alas that's all the pictures I have of the race itself. But I have lots of pictures afterwards.
