daVinci Birthday Bash in Corvallis Schools 20000412

second ride On April 12, Kelly and I rode Rex to Highland Elementary School and gave rides to the kids.

This girl was inspired enough to get in line for a second ride.

the line As time went on the line kept getting longer and longer. Unfortunately not all the kids got a chance to ride.

More pictures of kids.

inspired But for those who did, it was special. I only hope the school will organize it better next year. It is my impression that the teachers and students didn't even know we were there. The kids found out when they went out to recess and discovered us.

Inside the school they were having a science fair. I enjoyed looking at the displays and talking with the young scientists.

at the Bill Nye presentation We displayed Rex in the lobby of the colliseum where Bill Nye gave his talk. Even though people didn't have much time to spend in the lobby, we still got a lot of attention. I just about talked myself hoarse.

The table to the right has materials about daVinci Days.

Running Mate Bob Durst brought Running Mate [shown here]. And I brought The Rex Files. Both were in partial states of completion. John Sechrest gave a talk about how we build and race our machines.
I let the student ride The Rex Files.
Running Mate And Bob explained about Running Mate.

We are all hoping this inspires the students to work hard in school so that they can do things like this when they grow up.
